![]() Haiti - 222nd anniversary of the flag : PM launches a solemn appeal for national cohesion 19/05/2025 09:03:59
The celebration of the 222nd anniversary of Haitian independence was marked by profound reverence, unwavering respect for sovereignty, and an unwavering commitment to the ideals that led to independence. The Prime Minister paid tribute to the glorious history of the Haitian people, recalling that "May 18 embodies the unity, courage, and determination of our ancestors to build a free, just, and sovereign Nation [...] In a context of great uncertainty, this date calls on everyone to a surge of responsibility, solidarity, and collective commitment [...] The flag is our sacred bond. It is the symbol of what is most precious to us : our unity in diversity." On May 18, the Head of Government issued a solemn appeal for national cohesion, emphasizing that "only unity will overcome the current challenges." Faced with the multiple crises shaking the country, including insecurity, institutional fragility, and the loss of democratic benchmarks, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the urgency of action. He called for unity and concerted action to address these national challenges. "Together, we must create a climate of security and trust, conducive to the holding of a constitutional referendum and free and inclusive elections. This path requires dialogue, responsibility, and overcoming partisan interests." Fils-Aimé called on all stakeholders—civil society, local authorities, public institutions, and international partners—to actively contribute to this dynamic of national reconstruction. "Every citizen is called upon, every conscience is engaged." "The future of the Republic depends on our ability to stand together. To rebuild our democracy. To restore the authority of the State. To give our youth a country where they can dream, learn, and succeed." HL/ HaitiLibre
