Haiti - FLASH : Rain of infrastructure projects in the far North and the far South

Raphaël Hosty, the Minister of Public Works, revealed the airport, port, and road transport infrastructure projects underway in the North and South departments in the short and medium term.

Far North :

Airport Sector :

Work already underway, financed by the World Bank;

• Studies underway for the complete rehabilitation of the runway and control tower at Cap-Haïtien International Airport;

• Master plan including the terminal, thanks to financing from the Inter-American Development Bank.

Port Sector :

• Studies underway for the cabotage port units (Gonaïves, Saint-Marc, and Port-de-Paix), financed by the IDB.

Road Infrastructure :

Rehabilitation underway :

• Carrefour La Mort – Ouanaminthe section (69 km) on the RN6;

• Upgrading of the Ennery – Camp Coq road (36 km) on the RN1;

- Construction underway:

• Port-de-Paix – Anse-à-Foleur road (27 km), including the construction of five bridges and a bypass road in Saint-Raphaël (3 km), funded by the European Union.

- Short-term projects :

RN#1:

• Peripheral roads of Cap-Haïtien on RN#1: (Haut-du-Cap – Barrière Bouteille) (5 km);

• Completion of Ennery / Camp Coq (34 km);

• Rehabilitation of Camp Coq / Haut-du-Cap (40 km).

RN#5 :

• Rehabilitation of Carrefour Joffre / Port-de-Paix (73 km);

• Completion of Port-de-Paix / Limbe (53 km);

RN#3 :

• Rehabilitation : Saint-Raphaël / Dondon / Carrefour Ménard / Barrière Battant (18 km), funded by the European Union.

- Medium-term projects :

• Port-de-Paix Road / Môle St-Nicolas (66 km) ;

• Gonaïves – Bombardopolis / Môle Saint-Nicolas axis (113 km);

• Anse-Rouge / Jean-Rabel section, the Pont-Sondé / Mirebalais road (74 km);

• Pignon / Mont-Organisé / Ouanaminthe axis (70 km).

Far South :

Airport sector :

• Studies underway to upgrade the Antoine Simon Airport in Les Cayes to a Category 4E airport (works scheduled to begin in 2026);

• Maintenance of local airports (Jérémie, Jacmel).

Port sector :

• Studies underway for the cabotage port units (La Gonâve, Miragoâne, and Jérémie) financed by the IDB.

Road infrastructure underway :

• Rehabilitation of National Road #7, Construction work, including three bridges and the rehabilitation of the RN4 (Carrefour Dufort / Jacmel, 45 km).

Short-term projects :

• Miragoâne / Chalon road (15 km);

• Aquin / Cayes (50 km);

• Cayes / Port-Salut / Port-à-Piment (64 km);

• Jacmel / Marigot (27 km);

• Development of the Cayes seaside (4,000 m2);

• Development of the Estimated Bridge;

• Development of the entrance to the town of Jérémie.

Medium-term projects :

• Roads from: Tiburon / Port-à-Piment (100 km);

• Marigot / Anse-à-Pitres (130 km);

• Petite-Rivière de Nippes / Barradères (50 km).
