Haiti - Economy : Official opening of the CFI North Regional Office 19/07/2025 10:26:40
On Friday, July 18, 2025, Alfred Fils Metellus, Minister of Economy and Finance, visited the North to continue his program to encourage regional economic development. As in the South, where the Minister of Economy and Finance visited in early July, there is a real momentum for economic recovery in the North department. Chambers of Commerce are meeting, foundations are being created, and new businesses are emerging almost daily. It was in this context that Minister Alfred Fils Metellus spoke at the launch of the North Regional Office of the Investment Facilitation Center (BRN-CFI) at the Vaudreuil Administrative Complex, in Upper Cap-Haitien, aimed at strengthening the institution's territorial presence through the creation of Integrated Regional Service Hubs (HSRI). This first Regional Office represents a major milestone in the economic decentralization and local support policy implemented by CFl-Invest Haiti and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI). It covers the North, Northeast, and Northwest departments and will serve as a hub for national and foreign investors wishing to explore and develop the economic potential of the Greater North. This opening fulfills a dual ambition: to strengthen local governance in economic development and to highlight regional opportunities in promising sectors. The Greater North's entrepreneurial ecosystem, rich in resources and infrastructure, represents a strategic lever for stimulating national growth. The North Regional Office's mission will be to : • Promote the region as an investment destination; • Offer personalized support services from CFl-Invest Haiti; • Ensure seamless flow of information to the central office; • Provide investors with direct access to regional opportunities. Through this establishment, "CFl-Invest Haiti" reaffirms its commitment to supporting a balanced and inclusive territorial development policy, by bringing its services closer to local economic stakeholders and consolidating the growth dynamic in the regions. In his speech, the Minister began with the words of the Dessalinian "Live free and prosperous," which he placed in the perspective of a country where institutions must be involved to truly serve the population in order to begin the process of economic recovery. Emphasizing the importance of a return to security at the national level, he reiterated that this multi-sectoral crisis should be used as an opportunity for departments to boost their economies and become the drivers of national recovery. Accompanied by a team of Ministry officials, Metellus then attended a review of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) portfolio to gain a clear understanding of the progress and results of projects currently underway and those planned.
