Haiti - Politic : Councilor Saint-Cyr calls for renewed commitment from the private sector

Laurent Saint-Cyr (from the business sector), who will take over as President of the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) on August 7, took part in the closing ceremony of the Private Sector Engagement Forum on Reducing Community Violence. This forum was part of the co-construction process of the National Action Plan on Disarmament, Dismantling, Reintegration, and Reduction of Community Violence. It was organized with the support of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Haiti (CCIH), and the United Nations system.

Saint-Cyr praised the exceptional mobilization of regional chambers of commerce, government institutions, and international partners around a common goal : sustainably reducing community violence, which he considers an essential condition for economic recovery, stating, "We do not create wealth in fear. We do not build a future in instability. This reality calls for a joint mobilization of the State and the private sector to restore security, promote investment, rebuild stable communities and productive value chains, so that the wealth created benefits everyone."

In his opening speech, Saint-Cyr emphasized the strategic importance of the private sector's reflections on security issues and the reshaping of our governance pact. "The time has come for the private sector to deny certain stereotypes with which it has too often been associated or reduced. Not through rhetoric, but through concrete action. Not by defending itself, but by committing to peace, to social justice, to Haiti. Committing to rebuilding an economy that serves life, that serves the collective interest."

Saint-Cyr once again reiterated his commitment to working with his colleagues on the CPT, the Prime Minister, and his government. He promises to engage in dialogue and action throughout his coordination, starting August 7, with a view to ensuring the success of the major transition projects: security, elections, and economic recovery.

On the sidelines of his speech, the Presidential Advisor spoke with the audience, reaffirming his commitment to creating viable opportunities for young people and women, inclusive and sustainable growth, and Haiti's development. "The country can no longer wait. Let's roll up our sleeves. Let's get to work, now !" he concluded, to applause from the audience.
