Haiti - Health : Appointment of 70 new nurses (video) 07/08/2025 09:56:50
On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, during a ceremony at the Prime Minister's Office, presented letters of appointment to 25 nurses who passed the 2023 and 2024 State Examinations, organized by the Ministry of Public Health (MSPP), marking their entry into the service of the Nation. The ceremony was attended by several members of the Government, including Ministers Sinal Bertrand (Health), Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste (Foreign Affairs), Patrick Pélissier (Justice), MSPP officials, and other dignitaries. In his speech, the Minister of Health stated "This gesture is not merely administrative; it is deeply symbolic : it demonstrates a desire to focus on merit, regardless of origin, residence, or network. [..] Soon, it will be the turn of 600 nurses, 100 midwives, and nearly 300 general practitioners who will strengthen healthcare facilities across the country. As for specialist physicians, their appointment will be automatic as soon as they express their willingness to serve. This is how we intend to revitalize our healthcare network by promoting qualified human resources [...] Furthermore, this initiative will enable us to fill a huge gap in essential staff, estimated at 30,683, for rational population coverage. Since nationally, the ratio is 5.6 essential personnel per 10,000 inhabitants, far behind the standard recommended by the World Health Organization, which is 25 professionals per 10,000 inhabitants." He also announced a $25 million rehabilitation project for the Justinien University Hospital in Cap-Haitien. This project will be financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). In her speech, Ms. Carine Réveil Jean-Baptiste, Director of Nursing, welcomed the nomination of 70 healthcare professionals from the 2023 State Examinations. "You embody excellence, not only through your results, but also through your ethics and your humanity. Excellence is doing ordinary things in an extraordinary way," she said, calling on the recipients to serve with pride, courage, and compassion. She encouraged them to see this nomination as the beginning of a journey of service to the Nation : "In hospitals and the most remote clinics, you will be the hands that soothe and the hearts that understand."
