Haiti - Feminist Summer University : At the heart of the mobilization for positive masculinity

On Friday, August 8, 2025, at the El Rancho Hotel in Pétion-ville, Pédrica Saint-Jean, Minister for the Status of Women and Women's Rights, participated in the launch of the third edition of the Feminist Summer University, organized by Karavan Fanm Pou Chanjman (KFPC).

This year, the theme of this initiative is "Commitment to positive masculinity to prevent gender-based and sexual violence and build more just, peaceful and inclusive communities." It aims to build capacity, consolidate alliances and promote a lasting change in attitudes in favor of gender equality.

The opening ceremony brought together various figures, including Ms. Yves-Marie Édouard, Electoral Advisor; Ms. Guerda Benjamin, UN Women Representative in Haiti; Ms. Yolette Mengual, founder of the Feminist Summer University; and representatives of women's and youth organizations.

In her speech, Minister Saint-Jean praised the consistency and strategic scope of this initiative, which she considers an essential space for training, advocacy, and dialogue to transform sociocultural norms. She emphasized the need to fully involve men and boys in the fight against gender-based violence and highlighted positive masculinity as a lever for social transformation based on responsibility, listening, empathy, and mutual respect.

Through her presence and commitment, the Minister reaffirmed the central role of her Ministry in promoting gender equality, combating all forms of violence against women and girls, and building a peaceful, inclusive Haiti that respects human rights.
