Haiti - Baradère : 100 hectares of mangroves completely restored

The Haitian Biodiversity Fund (FHB) has completed its first major restoration project in the Baradère-Cayemites protected area (Southwest), implemented by the Initiative for the Environment and Integrated Development of Haiti (IEDIH).

• 100 hectares of mangroves have been fully restored, with 208,000 mangroves planted and a success rate of over 90%, which now protects the coastline;

• 350 young people have been trained (150 in sustainable management and 200 in beekeeping);

• 3 Local Support Committees (CLA) have been created to protect the project's achievements;

• Equipment provided to beekeepers (complete beekeeping kits) and fishermen (fish aggregating devices);

• Distribution of market garden seeds to around thirty families and cultivation of 10 hectares, to provide alternative incomes for the beneficiary families.

This project will not stop there. With, among other things, €11 million in co-financing from the French Development Agency (AFD), the FHB confirms its role as an environmental financial tool to build a sustainable and sovereign ecological future for Haiti.
