Haiti - Religion : The Vatican assures its willingness to collaborate in favor of Haiti

Monsignor Juan Antonio Cruz Serrano, Permanent Observer to the Organization of American States (OAS), during the presentation in Washington of the document "Towards a Haitian-led Roadmap for Stability and Peace with Regional and International Support" which aims to respond in several phases to the "multidimensional crisis" facing Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-45596-haiti-politic-a-$26-billion-roadmap-for-stability-and-peace-in-haiti.html reiterated the Vatican's willingness to "continue to collaborate, to the extent of its capabilities, in favor of the Haitian people," "reiterates its closeness," and "reaffirms its constant support for efforts to promote peace and stability."

The Permanent Observer described the situation in Haiti as "profound and dramatic," with both socio-political and humanitarian dimensions, characterized in particular by persistent insecurity, endemic poverty, and violence from armed groups. He recalled the thought expressed by the Pope on August 10 after the Angelus prayer, emphasizing that "the Haitian population is increasingly desperate." https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-45526-haiti-religion-pope-leo-xiv-asks-the-international-community-to-support-haiti.html . Leo XIV had called for "concrete support from the international community to create the social and institutional conditions that will allow Haitians to live in peace."

The Holy See stated that "the Holy See welcomes the efforts made by the OAS General Secretariat" to "urgently adopt concrete solutions to resolve the serious security and institutional crisis" in Haiti, also involving relevant international actors. It "assures that it will closely monitor the implementation of this document" and reaffirms its commitment to assisting the population.

Bishop Serrano also recalled the July 23 statement by the Episcopal Conference of Haiti, in which they denounced the situation of violence in the country and also welcomed "with satisfaction certain notable progress" in the draft Constitution planned for 2025, although they noted some concerns. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-45401-haiti-religion-ceh-s-position-on-the-country-s-security-crisis-and-the-2025-draft-constitution.html
