Haiti - Social : Message from the Special Representative of Secretary General of the UN

On the occasion of Christmas and New Year, the Special Representative of Secretary-General of the United Nations in Haiti, Mr. Mariano Fernández Amunátegui, wishes to present to the Government and people of Haiti his best wishes for a new year that would see the consecration of efforts aiming to put definitely Haiti on the road of recovery and sustainable development.

"Best wishes for a new year which will bring in it the Peace of heart, of the soul and of spirit," wished the Special Representative who welcomes on this occasion the force with which the Haitian people, resolutely turned towards the future, is concentrated to meet the challenges that are before it and the dignity and courage with which it crosses the difficulties.

"The year 2011 was marked by the installation of a new political leadership committed to to meet the aspirations of the Haitian people, who wait patiently the reconstruction physical, economic and institutional of their country" he said.

"Today, all indicators show a greater willingness of the Government, Parliament and political parties, churches, private sector and other civil society groups to work together to revive the economy, find a political consensus on the governance of the country and strengthening the rule of law" further estimated Mr. Mariano Fernández hoping that "the sum of the will and efforts allow to move towards a more just society where political rights and the rights socio-economic and cultural of all are guaranteed and respected."
