Haiti - Politic : Computerized OFATMA draws up a positive assessment

On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the Prime Minister's Office, as part of the 23rd edition of "Tuesdays for the Nation" a weekly communication platform aimed at strengthening citizen dialogue and institutional transparency, Vikerson Garnier, Director General of the Office for Workplace Accident, Sickness, and Maternity Insurance (OFATMA), announced the complete computerization of the insurance system.

Garnier highlighted the major progress made within OFATMA in figures. These included the regularization of more than 600 irregular employment contracts, the appointment of more than 100 employees who had served the institution for between three and ten years, and the signing of more than 30 MoU with affiliated healthcare providers.

He also highlighted the strengthening of the Office's financial and administrative management through the training of more than 40 managers and strict compliance with public finance standards.

On the social front, OFATMA increased its budget allocations for health service payments by 143%, processed over 18,000 medical claims, distributed approximately 6,000 insurance cards, and registered 74 new companies. Garnier also highlighted the implementation of a medical evacuation system abroad for care not available locally.

Looking to the future, Garnier announced several projects : strengthening departmental directorates, modernizing hospitals in the North, South, and West, as well as general computerization of the insurance system. He also emphasized the need to diversify funding sources to support OFATMA's transformation.

At the end of the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between OFATMA and the General Directorate of Civil Protection, allowing 12 patrol officers and volunteers to receive insurance cards. This gesture demonstrates the Office's commitment to expanding its social security coverage and supporting those committed to serving the population.
