Haiti - Social : Martelly saddened by the loss of 38 Haitians at sea
Michel Martelly, the President of the Republic, has learned with great sadness the news of the death of 38 Haitians, this Saturday, December 24, 2011, near the coast of Punta Maisi, Cuba, following the sinking of a small boat. This tragedy occurred on the eve of Christmas comes plunge unfortunately some families in mourning, at a time when we celebrate love, joy, sharing and solidarity.

The President of the Republic presents its sympathies to the relatives of victims and took the opportunity to ask citizens not to venture on the high seas in boats at risk, thus endangering their lives, with the aim desperate to travel illegally in a new home in search of opportunities.

The President Michel Martelly informs having passed formal instructions to the competent authorities for a management of 87 other survivors, rescued in time by the Cuban Coast Guard.

The Head of State reaffirmed his commitment to working to improve the lives of all Haitians, to create jobs in sufficient quantity, in order to avoid that, hounded by poverty and despair, children, youth, fathers and mothers do not continue to risk their lives and to mortgage their future.
