Haiti - Justice : Police Union SPNH-17 Denounces the Existence of Corrupt Police Officers

The Haitian National Police Union (SPNH-17) wishes to draw the attention of the general public, the police, and all relevant authorities in particular, to several specific complaints regarding the behavior of certain police officers in the performance of their duties. According to these complaints, some officers prefer to extort money from offending citizens, rather than properly enforcing the law, for official violations.

This "corrupt" behavior constitutes a serious error that undermines the public's trust in the police, tarnishes the image of the institution, and jeopardizes the honor and pride of the police uniform. SPNH-17 expresses its disagreement with this type of practice and will not tolerate any act based on corruption, extortion, or abuse of power.

The union reminds all police officers that their sacred mission is to serve the public with honor, integrity, and respect for the law. The police must be a symbol of justice and security, not a means of personal enrichment.

The union demands that the relevant authorities take strict disciplinary action against all members who soil their uniforms and behave unethically.
