Haiti - University : Situation and urgent needs of the UEH

On Thursday, September 11, 2025, Smith Augustin, Presidential Transition Advisor, accompanied by his Chief of Staff, visited the Rectorate of the State University of Haiti (UEH) to discuss the institution's situation.

During this visit, Rector Dieuseul Prédélus presented to Councilor Augustin the university's urgent needs. He recalled that several campuses of the various faculties had been evicted, looted, or besieged by gangs. This forced the UEH to rent space to ensure the continuity of classes.

Furthermore, as part of the university's expansion into the country's various departments, the Rector's team identified several sites for the construction of new campuses. The Rector emphasized, among other things, the crucial importance of structural investment in higher education as a pillar of national human capital development.

The UEH currently has 1,500 professors, including 1,200 part-time professors and 300 full-time professors. The Rector is considering increasing the number of full-time professors to ensure better support for students, particularly those nearing the end of their studies.

Following this visit, a draft UEH budget for the next fiscal year, 2025-2026, was submitted to Councilor Augustin. The provisional total is 8 billion gourdes and should contribute to improving the university's operations and promoting the revival of its activities, particularly through the acquisition of new premises, equipment, and necessary materials.
