Haiti - FLASH : Kamikaze drones kill at least 15 people, including 8 children

On the evening of Saturday, September 20, in the Simon Pelé neighborhood of Cité Soleil, two Kamikaze drones exploded, targeting gang leader Albert Steevenson, alias "Djouma." At the time of the attack, "Djouma" was preparing to celebrate his birthday and was distributing gifts to children, according to witnesses.

The death toll was high : at least 8 children were killed, 6 others were injured, some seriously (according to the Associated Press). 3 civilians and 4 armed bandits were also killed, and 7 others were injured, according to the RNDDH. It is unknown if "Djouma" was among the victims.

Romain Le Cour, Director of the Haiti Observatory within the Global Initiative Against Organized Crime, said Monday that the attack raised "urgent questions of accountability... 48 hours have passed since the event, and authorities have still not issued an official statement... Who will ultimately bear responsibility for this attack : the Prime Minister ? The Presidential Transitional Council ? Private security companies ? The leadership of the Haitian National Police ?"

The Haitian National Human Rights Defense Network (RNDDH) has accused (without evidence) the police of launching the attack.

Terrorist Jimmy Cherizier, alias "Barbecue" whose head is subject to a $5 million warrant https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-45540-haiti-flash-barbecue-indicted-in-the-usa-reward-of-up-to-$5-million.html , leader of the "Viv Ansanm" criminal gang coalition, designated by the Secretary of State as a Foreign Terrorist Organization on May 2nd, 2025 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-44822-haiti-politic-us-designates-viv-ansanm-and-gran-grif-as-foreign-terrorist-organizations-official.html , has vowed to avenge the victims of this attack.
