2 boats carrying illegal Haitians intercepted

This week, two boats carrying Haitian boat people fleeing violence and poverty in search of a better life were intercepted. The first was on Sunday, September 21, 2025, off the coast of Turks & Caicos, carrying 103 Haitians. The second, on Monday afternoon, involved a boat carrying about 40 Haitian illegal immigrants, which ran aground on a beach in the Kensington neighborhood of Portland Parish, Jamaica. Twenty-one Haitians were captured by authorities, and the search continued for the other illegal immigrants who escaped.

Former Director of TNH arrested

On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, following his hearing from the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC), Gamall Augustin, former Director General of Haitian National Television (TNH), was arrested. He is accused of embezzlement of public property, abuse of office, and forgery of public documents.

Double Murder, 7 arrests

Police in the Southeast Department arrested 7 individuals for their alleged involvement in the murder of Jean Louis Roger and his wife, Printemps Marielle, which occurred on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, in the locality of Otuf, a commune in the Jacmel Valley.

DR calls for vote on Haiti resolution

COFCOR for the "Gang Suppression Force"

At the twenty-fourth special meeting of the Council on Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), CARICOM Ministers expressed their support for the transition of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS) to a "Gang Suppression Force" and the establishment of a United Nations Support Office in Haiti. They called on Security Council members to support the draft resolution when it is submitted for adoption.

Saint-Cyr met with Ramdin (OAS)

Laurent Saint-Cyr, the President pro tempore of the Transitional Council, met with Albert Ramdin, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. The discussions focused on the progress of the roadmap for Haiti and the prospects for its implementation. Together, they emphasized the urgency of restoring security, while expressing the hope for a successful outcome to the ongoing discussions within the UN Security Council on the Haitian issue. The OAS also reaffirmed its readiness to provide its usual support to the electoral process, a priority of the transition.
