Haiti - Health Diplomacy : Two Major Advances for Haiti

The Government announces two major advances for Haiti in national and regional health diplomacy.

Haiti has been elected to the Executive Committee of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), a strategic decision-making body that guides public health priorities for the Americas.

Haiti has also been nominated for a seat on the World Health Organization's (WHO) Standing Committee on Health Emergency Prevention, Preparedness, and Response (SCHEPPR).

This election and nomination reflect international recognition of Haiti's role in managing health emergencies, whether epidemics, natural disasters, or complex humanitarian crises.

SCHEPPR is a key technical body established by the WHO to strengthen global coordination and preparedness for public health emergencies. Haiti's participation will:

• Contribute to the sharing of experiences and best practices in prevention and response;

• Strengthen national capacities in the areas of public health and crisis management;

• Strengthen cooperation between Haiti, the WHO, and other Member States to improve global health security.

It should be recalled that Haiti was elected to the WHO Executive Board for three years on May 29, 2025, following the 157th session of the WHO Executive Board. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-45017-icihaiti-health-for-the-first-time-haiti-elected-to-the-who-executive-board.html
