Haiti - Politic : Strengthening the protection of Haitian consumers
James Monazard, Minister of Commerce and Industry (MCI), launched a 4-day training workshop last week for inspectors from the departmental directorates of the Grand North region.

This initiative is part of a strategy to modernize quality control mechanisms and strengthen consumer protection. Led by specialists from several technical directorates within the Ministry, the training aimed to enhance the effectiveness and consistency of field operations, particularly in combating unfair business practices and non-compliant products.

In his opening remarks, Jean Sony Pierre, Coordinator of the Departmental Directorates Coordination Unit (UCDD), focused on the expected outcome, emphasized that, given the proliferation of abusive business practices, the presence of better-trained and better-equipped inspectors is essential to guaranteeing reliable and transparent services to the public.

Inspectors from the North, Northeast, Northwest, Artibonite, and Centre departments will participate in several technical sessions focused on commercial and quality inspection techniques, legal metrology, and legal provisions related to consumer protection.

The goal is to better equip them to carry out their duties more effectively and meet the public's expectations regarding product safety and quality.

The Coordinator also commended the trainers' commitment and the collaboration of the departmental directorates, considered a key factor in the success of this initiative, not to mention the clear vision of making continuing education a key element of leadership, a principle he has always championed at the directorate level.

Through this event, the Ministry intends to strengthen the effectiveness of its interventions and consolidate its actions on the ground. It should be noted that the launch of this workshop represents an important step in efforts to maintain better consumer protection nationwide.
