Haiti does not respect port security standards

The U.S. Coast Guard has sent a letter to the Haitian government informing it that the country does not comply with port security standards, specifically the USCG Code, which aims to protect ports and vessels from criminal and terrorist threats. According to the USCG, the Haitian government does not control international vessel traffic or criminal activity in its ports, making it impossible to prevent the entry of weapons, explosives, and other illicit goods. The relevant Haitian authorities have been given 90 days to implement the necessary corrective measures. If the situation does not improve within this timeframe, vessels from Haiti could be denied access to U.S. ports.

Electoral calendar submitted to the Executive branch

On Friday, November 14, 2025, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) announced that it had submitted the draft decree and the calendar for the upcoming elections to the Executive Branch. In submitting these documents, the CEP emphasized that the implementation of the electoral calendar was contingent upon meeting certain prerequisites. These include the timely publication of the electoral decree, an acceptable security environment, the availability of the necessary financial resources to conduct the process, and the continuation of actions initiated by the CEP.

The State allegedly signed an illegal contract

The Superior Court of Auditors (CSC) has ruled illegal a contract signed between the Haitian state, through the Ministry of Finance, and the company PC Terminal S.A., for a term of 48 years, to establish operations in Chiniourette, a free trade zone located in the Northeast. In its commentary, the CSC points out that the law of July 9, 2022, is clear: the concession period is 25 years for free trade zones and a minimum of 10 years for sub-free trade zones. According to the CSC, the term is illegal and exceeds the limits stipulated by law. It should be noted that the interim government signed a contract for more than 25 years with CPS, a contract which was not even submitted to the Court of Auditors.
