Haiti - Politic : Laurent Saint-Cyr, on an official trip to Washington D.C. 12/12/2025 08:21:43
On Thursday, December 11, 2025, as part of ongoing efforts to restore security and organize free, credible, and inclusive elections in the country as soon as possible, Laurent Saint-Cyr, the interim President and Coordinator of the Transition Council, began a two-day mission to Washington, D.C., in the United States. This mission reflects the Transition Council's and the Government's commitment to securing the necessary support for the rapid deployment of the Gang Supression Force (GSF) and the effective implementation of the Organization of American States (OAS) Roadmap (https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46151-haiti-politic-the-oas-presents-the-3rd-version-of-the-roadmap-on-haiti.html), two essential levers for ensuring the lasting return of security, peace, and stability to Haiti. This mission follows the meeting held in New York on December 9 regarding international contributions to the GSF, which was attended by Prime Minister Fils-Aimé and during which several states and partners expressed concrete support for the deployment of this new force. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46393-haiti-flash-first-infos-on-international-contributions-to-the-gsf.html In Washington, Laurent Saint-Cyr will participate in the meeting of the Group of Friends of Haiti, convened by the OAS, as well as several high-level meetings with bilateral, regional, and multilateral partners. Discussions will focus on three key priorities : security, the humanitarian response, and the electoral process. The implementation of the OAS Roadmap, resulting from constructive dialogue between the Organization and the Haitian government, will be central to the discussions. Laurent Saint-Cyr reaffirmed the Transitional Council's commitment to consolidating strategic alliances, strengthening Haiti's active diplomacy, and intensifying efforts to effectively address the security crisis, protect the population, and create the conditions conducive to holding elections. Saint-Cyr will return to Haiti on Saturday, December 13, 2025. See also : HL/ HaitiLibre
