Haiti - Cooperation : Haiti and Mexico celebrate 195 years of diplomatic relations

On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at the Montana Hotel in Port-au-Prince, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé participated in the official ceremony marking the 195th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Haiti and Mexico.

This commemoration, marked by solemnity and conviviality, brought together high-ranking Haitian officials, including Leslie Voltaire, Presidential Advisor for the Transition; Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste, Minister of Foreign Affairs; several members of the government; José de Jesús Cisneros Chávez, Mexican Ambassador to Haiti; Hubert Labbé, Haitian Ambassador to Mexico; as well as representatives of the diplomatic and consular corps accredited to Haiti.

On this occasion, the Head of Government participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony and the inauguration of an exhibition of photographs and historical documents, retracing nearly two centuries of cooperation and friendship between the two Nations.

Alongside Councilor Voltaire, Prime Minister Fils-Aimé reaffirmed the Haitian government's firm commitment to consolidating and deepening bilateral relations with Mexico, particularly in strategic sectors such as health, education, defense, security, and agriculture, for the benefit of sustainable development and the well-being of the Haitian and Mexican peoples.

In his address, Councilor Voltaire praised the exemplary nature of Haitian-Mexican friendship, recalling that this relationship is rooted in a long tradition of solidarity between peoples engaged in the struggle for their freedom. He mentioned Haiti's historical support for independence movements in Latin America, marking one of the first acts of South-South cooperation.

He also highlighted Mexico's significant contribution to the education of many young Haitians through scholarship programs, cultural exchanges, and technical cooperation projects. He described Mexico as a strategic partner in Haiti's reconstruction and sustainable development efforts.
