Haiti - OAS : The situation in Haiti on Albert Ramdin's agenda
Albert Ramdin, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), met this week with Peter Hakim, President Emeritus and member of the Advisory Council, Keith Mines and Mary Speck of The Inter-American Dialogue, and the Institute of Peace, to discuss the current situation in Haiti and how the OAS can continue its collaboration with various stakeholders, including The Inter-American Dialogue, to effectively support Haiti.

It was also agreed to facilitate dialogue with Haitian actors, particularly after February 7, the date of the end of the mandate of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT). We agree that support for and commitment to Haiti requires a long-term commitment, with significant and sustainable progress, in order to rebuild trust.

On Wednesday, Albert Ramdin held a videoconference with UN Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss the main challenges facing our hemisphere, particularly the situations in Venezuela and Haiti.

Regarding Haiti, Albert Ramdin emphasized the importance of close coordination between the UN and the OAS to support security, governance, and preparations for democratic elections, especially in the context of the upcoming political transition. We reaffirmed our shared commitment to close UN-OAS cooperation and coordinated multilateral action in the service of peace, democracy, and stability in the region.
