Haiti - Politic : Everything you need to know about the Ministry of Commerce and Industry

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) is responsible for protecting industrial and commercial property rights arising from international conventions and agreements, competition policy, and consumer rights.

The MCI's mission is structured around several strategic axes:

First :

The MCI is responsible for formulating, proposing, and implementing Haiti's trade and industrial policy. In this context, it also strives to facilitate investment, particularly in promising and productive sectors;

Second :

The MCI works to promote exports and integrate the new dynamics of global and regional trade into the country's economic and social development plan, in full compliance with national legislation and Haiti's international and regional commitments;

Third :

The Ministry's main responsibilities include proposing the definition of the major strategic directions of public trade and industrial policy, both nationally and sectorally, by linking, on the one hand, the country's major socio-economic choices and, on the other hand, the mechanisms and resources necessary for their implementation;

Fourth :

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) is responsible for applying the laws governing trade and industrial matters and for proposing any preliminary draft or draft law supporting trade and industrial policy, while ensuring compliance with the country's international, regional, and sub-regional commitments;

Fifth :

The Ministry is responsible for conducting all forms of negotiations aimed at concluding international, regional, or sub-regional trade and industrial agreements, conventions, and treaties, as well as taking all appropriate measures to ensure their monitoring and effective implementation.

Should be noted that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) maintains close collaborations with various public, semi-public, and private institutions directly or indirectly involved in the production, distribution, marketing, and communication of goods and services. These partnerships aim to stimulate productivity and strengthen competitiveness at the national and international levels, while ensuring respect for consumer rights.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry plays a crucial role in implementing poverty reduction strategies. To this end, it regulates and oversees all public and private activities within its jurisdiction. In addition, it ensures the modernization of the legal framework for business, thereby creating an environment conducive to investment and the sustainable development of industrial and commercial activities.
