Haiti - Social : Commemoration of the January 12 in Montreal

The Consulate General of the Republic of Haiti in Montreal, informs the general public, especially the Haitian community and friends of Haiti, that this January 12, 2012 will mark the two years of the earthquake that hit Haiti, particularly the Department of West, economic center of the country.

The commemoration will take place in a particular manner at the cultural center of Haiti "La Perle Retrouvée" [7655, 20th avenue Saint-Michel, Montreal (corner Crémazie)]. The Consulate invites the entire Haitian community of Montreal and friends of Haiti in a moment of reflection during which we will renew our solidarity with the survivors.

The Consulate also invite you, from 7pm to "La Perle Retrouvée", where the Mandela Centre King, will present in premiere, the documentary film "SAK PASE ? Au cœur de la Communauté haïtienne" (SAK PASE ? In the heart of the Haitian community) of director Roger Boisrond.

A religious ceremony [around 19:00] in memory of the disappeared, organized with the Catholic Mission of Haiti, will be held in the church Notre-Dame d'Haiti, on the street St-Denis (corner Beaubien).

Au cœur de la Communauté haïtienne" a 46 minute video, directed by Roger Boisrond is a collective work, fruit of a reflection on the social involvement of the Haitian community in its search for economic stability, in its path and its future. The presentation of this documentary will give you a better understanding of the Haitian presence in Quebec society. It also shows the great solidarity that has long existed between Quebec and Haiti.
