Haiti - Cinema : International excellence training in documentary filmmaking, call for applications

The French National School of Image and Sound (La FEMIS) is now accepting applications for its 2026 Summer University. This two-month, internationally renowned documentary filmmaking program is designed for young filmmakers and film students from outside Europe.

Established in 1989 with the support of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, this program welcomes 15 film students or young professionals each year who wish to deepen their documentary skills. Candidates will be selected by a jury.

The program will take place over eight and a half weeks, with five days of intensive classes per week (from July 8 to September 4, 2026) in Paris. The curriculum focuses primarily on the individual production of a documentary film between 5 and 10 minutes in length, under the guidance of film professionals.

In addition to meetings related to film selection and development, participants will attend three weeks of theoretical and practical courses, including numerous film screenings. The following weeks are dedicated solely to practical documentary filmmaking skills.

Desired Profiles :

This call for applications is open to French-speaking film students with a strong interest in auteur documentary filmmaking and some prior practical experience. A short documentary film must be included in the application.

Eligibility criteria are as follows :

• Be under 27 years of age on January 1st, 2026

• Not a citizen of a European country

• Be fluent in French (written, spoken, and reading)

• For non-French-speaking applicants, provide a certificate of French proficiency at least at level B1

Selection Procedure :

Candidates will be selected jointly by FEMIS and the Cultural Services of the French Embassies in the countries concerned, based on a review of their applications.

Application deadline :

The complete application must be sent to projet@institutfrancaishaiti.org no later than March 27, 2026
