Haiti - Politic : New Municipal Commission at the head of Port-au-Prince

Paul Antoine Bien-Aimé, Minister of the Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT), accompanied by Pierre Canisius Guignard, Director General of the Ministry, presided over the installation of the new Port-au-Prince Municipal Commission on February 11, 2026. The commission had been appointed by decree on February 7, 2026, under the auspices of the Council of Ministers and the chairmanship of Prime Minister Fils-Aimé.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Ministry's offices in Delmas 60. Among those present were Ketlène Jean Louis, Director General of the Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE); members of Minister Bien-Aimé's staff; the Director of Territorial Communities; senior Ministry officials; Paul-André, President of the National Federation of CASECS of Haiti (FENACAH); and numerous relatives and supporters of the new municipal commission members.

Composed of Yves Andrel Salomon, President (Mayor), and his deputies Dorothé Ignace Morel and Esther Cinéas, this new Commission takes office at a crucial moment for the city of Port-au-Prince, a moment that the administrative and political hierarchy of the State intends to address.

In his remarks, the Director General of the Ministry specified that this appointment stems from a desire to respond to the legitimate needs and aspirations of the people of Port-au-Prince by providing quality public services.

The Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT) is counting on the new Port-au-Prince Municipal Commission to implement local public policies that will help the population breathe new life into the city. It also urges the new Executive Agents to work effectively and efficiently so that the capital can regain its pride.

Furthermore, the new members of the Port-au-Prince Municipal Commission received official confirmation of their appointment from Minister Paul Antoine Bien-Aimé, in accordance with the spirit and letter of the decree establishing a municipal commission for the capital, tasked with managing its affairs until the next elections.

Finally, the new municipal council must take into account the real needs of the population, particularly the most vulnerable living in camps for displaced persons.

The Ministry intends to offer its full support to the executive agents of the Port-au-Prince municipality to improve operational performance and strengthen the municipal institution.
