Haiti - FLASH : Swedish Pia Sundhage new Coach of Grenadières Senior

Two weeks after the departure of French coach Malou Quignette (https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46790-haiti-news-zapping.html) due to the non-renewal of her contract, the Haitian Football Federation (FHF) announced the appointment of Swedish coach Pia Sundhage as the new head coach of the senior women's national team, the Grenadières. She will therefore take the helm of our senior Grenadières, aiming, among other things, for another qualification for the Women's World Cup, the finals of which will be held in Brazil in 2027.

A leading figure in international football, Pia Sundhage brings to Haiti exceptional experience at the highest level. Among her major achievements :

• Two-time Olympic Champion with the United States (2008, 2012)

• Women's World Cup Finalist (2011)

• Olympic Silver Medalist with Sweden (2016)

• Copa América Winner with Brazil (2022)

• 146 international caps as a player (71 goals)

Beyond her titles, Ms. Sundhage is recognized worldwide for her ability to:

• Structure high-performance environments

• Develop young and emerging talent

• Instill a culture of high standards and discipline

• Manage international pressure and major competitions

The Haitian Football Federation (FHF) considers this appointment a strategic lever for institutional transformation. The objective goes beyond mere sporting performance. It also aims to :

• Strengthen the national technical organization and structure training methodologies

• Harmonize standards between national teams and youth development programs

• Position Haiti as a credible nation on the international stage

The Federation has placed a fundamental principle at the heart of this agreement: the transfer of knowledge for the benefit of Haitian coaches. Sundhage's mandate includes :

• Mentoring and training national coaches

• Sharing methodologies and technical tools

• Gradually integrating local expertise within the coaching staff

• Contributing to the sustainable structuring of the National Technical Directorate

This approach aims to ensure that the international expertise mobilized directly benefits the long-term development of Haitian football.

The FHF warmly welcomes Ms. Pia Sundhage and expresses its full confidence in her leadership as we enter this new chapter in the development of Haitian women’s football.
