Haiti - USA : Internationalization of the UEH

Earlier this week, Harry Dumay, President of Elms College (Chicopee, Massachusetts), and Dieuseul Prédélus, Rector of the State University of Haiti (UEH), in the presence of academic authorities from both institutions, faculty members, the Kellogg Program Officer, and distinguished guests, signed a memorandum of understanding at the Elms College's Merci Marlène and Jacques Louis Dumay Living-Learning Community and Cultural Center. This agreement aims to create an innovative continuing education program, primarily for the professional development of Haitian teachers. This agreement marks a new step in the UEH's internationalization efforts, initiated since the arrival of the new Executive Council.

This partnership pays particular attention to the UEH's École Normale Supérieure (ENS), a historic institution dedicated to teacher training in Haiti. Thanks to the expertise of Elms College, particularly through its Division of Education and its Center for Equity in Urban Education, the program aims to equip Haitian teachers with contemporary pedagogical approaches adapted to current challenges.

The objective is to strengthen teaching skills, introduce proven teaching methods, and create a multiplier model where better-equipped trainers will contribute to sustainably raising the level of the Haitian education system.

In his address, Rector Prédélus described this agreement as a "historic moment". According to him, this partnership marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration aligned with an ambitious vision: to make the State University of Haiti (UEH) a modern, competitive university resolutely focused on international academic standards, while remaining deeply rooted in Haitian realities.

For Prédélus, "academic excellence cannot be decreed; It is built daily through rigorous work, intellectual openness, and continuous improvement." He took the opportunity to highlight the complementarity of the two institutions : Elms College brings its expertise in teacher training, while the State University of Haiti (UEH) offers its in-depth knowledge of the Haitian context and the specific needs of the national education system.
