Haiti - USA : Haitians in the Top 3 of illegal immigration under Biden

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has just released statistics on the extent of illegal immigration to the United States under the Biden administration. According to official data from Customs and Border Protection (CBP), reported by Fox News, millions of foreign nationals crossed the border between February 2021 and January 2025.

The figures published by the DHS show an unprecedented demographic impact on certain Latin American and Caribbean countries. In terms of percentage of their total population, four nations dominate the ranking of illegal entries:

• Nicaragua : 8% of its total population entered the United States illegally;

• Cuba : 7% of its population;

• Haiti : 6% of its population;

• Honduras : 5% of its population. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), now under Secretary Kristi Noem, strongly criticized the previous administration, calling the Democratic immigration policy a driver of national insecurity.

Since Donald Trump's return to the White House, the official narrative has shifted dramatically. In an interview with Fox News, Kristi Noem claimed that the border had gone from a state of "invasion" to the "safest border in the nation's history" in record time, stating, "Thousands of people died at the border because Democrats allowed an invasion that benefited cartels and human trafficking".

Since then, the Trump administration has launched a nationwide offensive to deport undocumented immigrants who entered the country during Biden's presidency, a measure that has sparked heated debate in Congress over ICE funding.

Currently, the immigration situation is unfolding against a backdrop of a partial government shutdown. Lacking an agreement on DHS funding, tensions between Republicans and Democrats are escalating : nearly 90% of agents are considered "essential" and are working without pay. Tom Homan, the head of border security, assures that border control operations will not be impacted thanks to funding from the "One Big Beautiful Bill". White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt accuses Democrats of blocking the budget to politically damage Donald Trump, at the expense of employees of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Coast Guard.

This legislative battle over border security and the deportation of undocumented immigrants remains the major point of contention in American politics in 2026.
