The Ministry of the Environment, the Bureau of Mines and Energy (BME), and the Technical Unit of Seismology (UTS) have published Haiti's seismic activity report for the year 2025. The data comes from local networks (Ayiti-séismes and UTS) as well as regional networks in Cuba, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic.

Summary of the 2025 Seismic Activity Report in Figures :

Quantity, Magnitude, and Depth of Earthquakes :

Number of Earthquakes :

553 earthquakes were recorded in 2025, representing a 12% decrease compared to the 628 earthquakes in 2024.

Monthly Frequency :

The average was 46 earthquakes per month. The most active months were May and August, with 60 earthquakes each.

Magnitudes :

Between 0.2 and 4.2. 503 earthquakes (90.9%) had a magnitude of 3 or less (very minor). 9% (50 earthquakes) were between 3.1 and 4.2 (minor to slight). The strongest earthquake (magnitude 4.2) occurred on Saturday, August 23, off the coast of Jean Rabel (Northwest) https ://www.haitilibre.com/article-45620-haiti-flash-seisme-de-42-au-large-de-l-ile-de-la-tortue.html.

Offshore Earthquakes :

Approximately 206 earthquakes (37.25%) occurred offshore, particularly around the Northwest Peninsula.

Depth :

263 earthquakes (47.5%) were shallow (depth ≤ 10 km), making them more noticeable at the surface.

Geographical Distribution by Department :
