A historic first at the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Haiti

On Friday, March 13, 2026, Raina Forbin, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Religious Affairs, welcomed several leaders from various religious denominations in the country to the Ministry. This initiative demonstrates the Government's commitment to fully recognizing the role of religious communities in public action and is part of the ongoing effort to strengthen institutional dialogue with the moral and spiritual forces of the Nation. It also aims to fully involve faith communities in collective efforts to consolidate peace, social cohesion, and stability in the country.

In his opening remarks, Joël Turenne, Director General of Religious Affairs, emphasized the unprecedented importance of this initiative within the Ministry. He stressed that this was a historic first for the Ministry of Religious Affairs, demonstrating the Government's commitment to strengthening ties with religious communities and recognizing their essential contribution to consolidating the values of unity, solidarity, and hope within Haitian society.

In her address, Minister Forbin praised the spiritual diversity that enriches Haitian society. She emphasized the crucial importance of religious communities in national life, presenting them as essential moral guides, especially in a context marked by significant security and social challenges.

The Minister stressed that lasting peace depends not only on the actions of institutions, but also on the moral commitment of society. She acknowledged the decisive role of religious leaders in supporting communities, promoting civic values, and strengthening social cohesion. She affirmed that the country's stability will also be built on the strength of consciences, the moral education of communities, and the commitment of spiritual leaders at the heart of society.

The Minister announced the upcoming convening of a National Conference of Religious Leaders. This initiative aims to establish a structured framework for dialogue between the State and the various religious denominations, in order to promote a culture of peace, strengthen social cohesion, and mobilize awareness around the fundamental values of unity, responsibility, and national solidarity.

Representatives of the religious sector welcomed this announcement with enthusiasm, praising this opening to dialogue as an important step in strengthening relations between the State and religious communities.
