Haiti - FLASH : Yellow alert in the Far North

A cold front established over Cuba could bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to the North, North-East, and North-West departments late this afternoon and evening. This severe weather could cause flooding, landslides, and high waves.

The National Disaster Risk Management System (SNGRD), in conjunction with the General Directorate of Civil Protection, has issued a yellow alert for the northern region of the country.

It urges everyone, especially those living in at-risk areas, to follow these instructions :

- Always follow weather reports and instructions from authorities and civil protection agencies. Do not listen to rumors.

- Always listen to loudspeakers, the radio, watch television, or check the internet for accurate information about the situation.

- Store your belongings and all important documents in a safe place to protect them from water damage.

- Make an effort to stock up on everything you will need for several days at home (non-perishable food, water for household needs and treated drinking water, batteries, radio, flashlight, medications, etc...) in case you are unable to leave.

- Avoid long trips to mountainous areas or near rivers far from home.
