The Haitian government is implementing austerity measures

Faced with current economic constraints, the Government is implementing austerity measures aimed at controlling public spending, preserving economic stability, and ensuring the continuity of essential services.

Circular 017 on austerity measures implemented in the public administration informs all authorizing officers of the national public administration that :

"The international situation has seen significant developments in recent weeks, notably marked by the accelerated increase in petroleum product prices on the world market and the potential risks of supply disruptions that this is likely to generate.

This outlook allows us to anticipate serious repercussions on the already fragile macroeconomic balance and public finances in particular. It requires that every effort be made to preserve this stability while guaranteeing the provision of basic social services to the population, the State's capacity to intervene in security expenditures, and the chances of a long-term recovery of the national economy.

To address this situation, the Government has no choice but to further reduce state spending. In this regard, the following measures are adopted until further notice :

- The acquisition of new vehicles is prohibited;

- Fuel expenditure budgets for public institutions will be reduced, even if it means limiting travel;

- Foreign travel by officials and senior staff will be limited to essential missions authorized by the Prime Minister;

- The security escort for public figures, if necessary, is limited to one vehicle.

The Authorizing Officers of the Public Administration are responsible, each within their respective jurisdiction, for the strict application of these provisions."

Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé
