The Government strengthens social assistance to IDBs in Haiti

On Wednesday, April 1st, 2026, Marc-Elie Nelson, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, visited the hot meal production center located at the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC), which provides daily hot meals to internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Accompanied by Kesner Romilus, the Director General, the Minister then visited the Pierre Labitrie Municipal School camp in Delmas 31. "Through the FAES, we are strengthening national solidarity mechanisms to guarantee dignified access to food for the most vulnerable populations. These actions reflect our commitment to providing concrete and immediate solutions to promote social peace," the Minister stated.

At the Pierre Labitrie Municipal School camp, approximately 2,900 people benefit from these food services.

In this context, several concrete actions are being implemented through the FAES (Fund for Economic and Social Support), such as the deployment of mobile canteens at 19 sites in Delmas and Pétion-ville; the distribution of 36,000 hot meals per day, reaching 378,000 people over an 11-day period; the establishment of 37 community restaurants in the West, 9 in the Center, and 2 in Artibonite, ensuring the distribution of 48,000 hot meals per day, with the possibility of expansion; and the distribution of approximately 49,000 additional meals outside of these sites. In total, nearly 137,000 hot meals are served daily through the mobile canteen and community restaurant programs.

Furthermore, from April 2nd to 6th, distribution operations of uncooked food kits are planned: nearly 10,000 kits in the South and approximately 5,000 in Artibonite. These initiatives are funded by the Haitian Treasury and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

In parallel, FAES also coordinates a network of 163 community restaurants operating off-site, providing expanded food coverage for populations living in disadvantaged areas.
