Nippes now has qualified staff and a medical entomology laboratory

The Nippes department now has qualified staff and a functional medical entomology laboratory, marking a significant step forward in strengthening public health services.

In fact, young healthcare professionals have been trained in medical entomology by experts from the Cuban Medical Brigade in Haiti, as part of Haitian-Cuban cooperation. For several months, approximately ten participants received technical and scientific training, enabling them to acquire essential skills in the identification, analysis, and control of disease vectors.

This initiative aligns with the vision of Dr. Sinal Bertrand, Minister of Public Health, to guarantee quality care and accessible services for the population. This training was implemented under the leadership of Dr. Esther Ceus Dumont, Departmental Health Director of Nippes, who continues to strengthen the local health system's capacity.

The importance of this training is paramount. Today, this initiative allows the department to have access to skilled personnel at Sainte-Thérèse Hospital, capable of better anticipating and combating vector-borne diseases such as dengue fever, malaria, and chikungunya.

But beyond training and the awarding of certificates, one of the most significant achievements remains the establishment of a modern and functional entomology laboratory within Sainte-Thérèse Hospital. This space now provides a suitable environment for analyses, entomological surveillance, continuing education, and field interventions.

Today, Nippes is reaching a major milestone: trained staff are available, a laboratory is operational, and a new service is ready to serve the population directly.
