Before leaving for Guatemala on Friday the President Martelly had announced that the Foreign Minister, Laurent Lamothe and the Ambassador Wyclef Jean would travel Saturday to California to attend a fundraising for the foundation of Sean Penn (J/P HRO), the latter "...strictly for Haiti to help in Haiti" specified the President of the Republic.

Were among others present Luc Besson, Mel Gibson, Melanie Griffith, Felicity Jones, Demi Moore, Julia Roberts, George Clooney and Hilary Swank, at the ceremony, "Cinema For Peace Los Angeles 2012" held Saturday night at the Montage Hotel and which allowed to gather $5 million for the J/P Haitian Relief Organization that helps Haitians since January 12, 2010.

During the auction, the singer Damien Rice spent $475,000 for Bono's guitar while the husband of Julia Roberts, Danny Moder, has offered $50,000 for a trip to Haiti with Sean Penn.

During the ceremony in Bervely Hills the actor Sean Penn has been named Ambassador at large to Haiti by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Religious Affairs, Laurent Lamothe, in front of many personalities and Cheryl Mills, chief-of-staff to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. "I do accept" declared the actor.
