FLASH : A first contingent of 400 Chadian fighters already in Haiti, operating discreetly

On Monday, April 20, 2026, within the framework of the UN-established Gang Sypression Force (GSF), Chadian President Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby announced in a message read by Ali Kolotou Tchaïmi, President of the National Assembly, to members of parliament and senators "[...] the State will contribute to this force with two battalions of 750 personnel each, for a total of 1,500 men. A contingent of 400 men is already deployed in Haiti [...]" These 1,500 men will be deployed for an initial period of 12 months, beginning in April 2026, as part of the fight against gangs and urban terrorists.

Regular rotations of cargo planes have enabled the unloading of armored vehicles and technological surveillance equipment. Much of this equipment was stored and assembled at the GSF base in Port-au-Prince, whose construction to accommodate the new troops was facilitated by the equipment delivered in the first days of the month.

It should be noted, according to our sources, that the infantry fighting vehicles, among other things, have not yet been deployed.

Main Heavy Equipment Identified :

Infantry Fighting Vehicles :

Wheeled armored vehicles (of the BTR type or similar) equipped with turrets. They are designed to protect troops against automatic weapons fire and sniper fire while providing fire support.

Military Engineering Equipment :

Armored bulldozers and loaders. This is a crucial point: these vehicles are intended to demolish the concrete barricades and shipping containers that gangs use to block access to their neighborhoods (such as Cité Soleil or Village de Dieu).

Surveillance and Attack Drones :

The equipment includes tactical drones for real-time aerial reconnaissance, allowing the location of gang leaders before ground assaults.

Collective Weapons :

Heavy machine guns and long-range sniper rifles, necessary to neutralize snipers positioned on the rooftops of Port-au-Prince.

It should be noted the complete absence of an official ceremony for these landings, unlike previous deployments, and the lack of any announcement from Haitian authorities for strategic reasons, which explains Chad's discreet deployment in Haiti.
