The cleanup of Cap-Haitien in Haiti continues through «Konbit Netwayaj»

Since September 2025, Cap-Haïtien has launched a large-scale cleanup campaign through Konbit Netwayaj, as well as the Samedi Sitwayen initiative, held every last Saturday of the month.

For the "Samedi Sitwayen" event on April 25, 2026, the City Hall mobilized several key institutions, including the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Public Works, the National Solid Waste Management Service (SNGRS), and various civil society actors, who responded enthusiastically to participate in this major "Konbit Netwayaj" initiative for change.

This initiative is also part of the national movement launched by the Ministry of the Environment, "Konbit Haiti Zero Waste."

This intervention primarily targets the coastline along the road connecting the airport to the city center, a strategic area representing the city's main gateway.

In her address, Angie Bell, the Mayor of Cap-Haïtien, welcomed this initiative from the Ministry of the Environment, which she considers crucial support for the municipality's efforts to sustainably improve waste management. She emphasized that the city had been eagerly awaiting this program, as sanitation is one of the major challenges it faces.

For its part, the Cap-Haïtien Municipal Administration reaffirmed its commitment to continuing to mobilize all stakeholders in the community to build a cleaner and better-organized city.

Valery Fils Aimé, Minister of the Environment, praised the spirit of collaboration that characterizes this program, highlighting the joint mobilization of the public sector, the private sector, and civil society organizations. He reiterated that addressing environmental challenges requires shared responsibility, calling for everyone's commitment.

"The fight against environmental challenges cannot be won without everyone's involvement. Every little bit counts," the Minister declared.

Daril Baltaza, Director General of the SNGRS (National Service for Waste Management), commended the population’s determination and the commitment of local authorities in welcoming and implementing the program. He also called on the population to fully play its role by adopting responsible waste management practices.

Furthermore, in this same spirit, the Minister of the Environment will officially launch the “Konbit Haiti Zero Waste” program this Sunday, April 26, in the city of Ouanaminthe. The program will also be rolled out starting Monday, April 27, in the city of Gonaïves, thus marking the continuation of its gradual expansion nationwide.
