37th Session of the Sectoral and Thematic Table on Social Protection in Haiti

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST), through its Studies and Programming Unit (UEP), organized the 37th session of the Sectoral and Thematic Table on Social Protection (TSPS) this week.

Held at the Montana Hotel and via videoconference, this hybrid event brought together key institutions and partners to strengthen coordination mechanisms within the social protection sector.

In his opening remarks, Marc-Elie Nelson, the Minister of Social Affairs, emphasized the importance of the National Policy on Social Protection and Promotion as a strategic tool available to MAST. In this regard, the sectoral table facilitates discussions within the sector, serves as a key framework for reducing the fragmentation of initiatives, and promotes harmonized collective action.

"It is imperative that all interventions, whether led by the State or by technical and financial partners, are fully aligned with this framework and contribute to its coherent implementation."

He reiterated his Ministry’s commitment to continuing collaborations with partners, ensuring alignment with national priorities, coherence of interventions, and complementarity of actions.

Marie Hérolle Michel, the Ministry’s Director General, commended the dynamism of the stakeholders involved in social protection; she encouraged cohesion and combined synergy for pragmatic results that benefit the population. "The cohesion of the social protection system begins with the cohesion of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST) itself," the Director emphasized.

On the agenda for the 37th session of the Sectoral and Thematic Table on Social Protection (TSPS) : the joint project for the accelerator for social protection and employment, presented by Sergot Jacob and Thomas Debrouwer; TSPS achievements presented by Barbara Canton and Jonès Pyram; the presentation of the revised TSPS Terms of Reference by Claudy Louis (Focal Point of the Roundtable); and the TSPS revitalization action plan presented by the UEP Coordinator, Lucny Cadet.
