Haiti - Argentina : Strengthening cooperation in defense and security 02/06/2026 09:08:05
On Monday, June 1st, 2026, Mario Andrésol, the Minister of Defense, received Pablo André Graziano, the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Republic of Argentina in Haiti, for a working visit focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in defense and security. Following a request from the Haitian government, the Chargé d’Affaires reaffirmed his country’s commitment to deepening its military cooperation with Haiti. He indicated that Argentina is prepared to welcome Haitian candidates to its land, naval, and air force military academies in the near future, thereby contributing to the professional development of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd’H). Graziano also emphasized the need to strengthen the capabilities of the Haitian military institution to ensure its full integration into the regional security framework. During the discussions, Minister Andrésol noted that the states of the region face common national security challenges, including terrorism, transnational organized crime, and other cross-border threats. In this context, he emphasized that the effective restoration and progressive strengthening of the Armed Forces of Haiti are essential elements for consolidating national stability and maintaining regional security balance. The discussions also focused on the cooperation framework between the Ministry of Defense and the Gang Supression Force (GSF). In this regard, both men reaffirmed the need to strengthen coordination and complementarity in security operations. They specifically highlighted the importance of promoting enhanced operational coordination between the GSF, the Haitian National Police (PNH), and the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd’H) to increase the effectiveness of operations against armed criminal groups. to develop cooperation mechanisms focused on strengthening the institutional and operational capacities of the Haitian public forces, enabling them to fully assume their responsibilities and gradually take over from the FRG at the end of its mandate.
