On Friday, June 5, 2026, at the Karibe Hotel, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé participated in the ceremony marking World Environment Day, organized by the Ministry of the Environment (MdE).

Under the theme "Green Jobs Serving a Sustainable Haiti" this event brought together Ministers Valéry Fils-Aimé (Environment), Sandra Paulemon (Planning), Marcelin Aubourg (Agriculture), James Monazard (Commerce), Raina Forbin (Foreign Affairs), Bertrand Sinal (Health), and Joseph Almathe Pierre-Louis (Public Works), as well as technical and financial partners, school administrators, and numerous young people committed to environmental protection.

Minister of the Environment Valéry Fils-Aimé emphasized the central role of youth in the country's environmental transformation. He highlighted the main initiatives implemented by the Ministry in the areas of sanitation, protection of protected areas, ecosystem restoration, environmental education, combating climate change, and promoting green jobs. The Minister also reaffirmed his commitment to creating the necessary conditions for the aspirations expressed by young people for Haiti in 2050 to become a reality. He presented several achievements within the framework of government priorities, including the launch of the "Konbit Ayiti Zewo Dechè" program and the removal of more than 60,000 cubic meters of waste in several cities across the country.

The Prime Minister emphasized the considerable economic potential of green jobs for Haitian youth. He also announced the elimination of the tax on batteries and solar panels, a concrete and ambitious measure that demonstrates the Government's commitment to the energy transition, environmental protection, and the development of a green, inclusive, and sustainable economy. This initiative aims to facilitate access to renewable energy for households, businesses, and institutions, while reducing dependence on traditional energy sources.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, he visited the various exhibition spaces where the Ministry's technical departments, the National Agency for Protected Areas (ANAP), the National Solid Waste Management Service (SNGRS), environmental companies, and green artisans presented their achievements and innovations in the areas of recycling, waste recovery, biodiversity, renewable energy, and the circular economy.

In her remarks, Minister Paulemon reiterated that Haiti continues to face significant environmental challenges. "Our mountains are being stripped bare by deforestation. Our watersheds are deteriorating. Our rivers are silting up and becoming polluted. Waste is invading our public spaces, our neighborhoods, and sometimes even our coastlines." To these challenges is added a high degree of climate vulnerability marked by hurricanes, floods, prolonged droughts, soil erosion, and landslides that regularly affect the most vulnerable communities.

"The environment is a matter of survival. It is the land we cultivate, the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the legacy we will leave to our children."

Addressing the theme chosen for this edition, Sandra Paulemon highlighted the strategic role of green jobs in the country’s economic and social transformation: reforestation, urban sanitation, integrated waste management, watershed protection, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, ecotourism, and green infrastructure. She explained that these activities offer a concrete response to several simultaneous challenges by promoting job creation, poverty reduction, environmental protection, and the strengthening of social cohesion.

While acknowledging the magnitude of the challenges, Ms. Paulemon delivered a message of confidence and hope. "I refuse to believe that Haiti’s destiny is one of decline, vulnerability, or resignation. I believe in the Haitian people’s capacity to transform difficulties into opportunities, challenges into solutions, and crises into new beginnings."
