Haiti - Diplomacy : Working meeting between Ambassadors and the Government of Haiti

Ten accredited ambassadors and representatives of Haiti residing in the Dominican Republic made, at the beginning of a week a working visit to Port-au-Prince, where they met the Haitian authorities and their international partners based in the country, with whom they exchanged on the political process, security situation, strengthening the rule of law, the progress and challenges of reconstruction, as well as opportunities for cooperation and investment.

The representatives of Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Israel, Italy, Peru, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom composed the delegation, to which joined the Japanese Ambassador a. i. residing in Haiti.

The Secretary General of the National Palace, Me Jean Renel Sanon, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Pierre Richard Casimir, the Special Advisor to the President, Jean Edner Nelson, and the representative of the IHRC, Ms. Anne Valerie Thimothée attended the meeting.

Ambassadors present, accompanied by Ambassador Enzo di Taranto of the UN :

  • Stephen Fisher, Ambassador of the United Kingdom

  • Rita Dulcy, Ambassador of the Netherlands

  • Vicente Alejandro Assula d'Ellaguera, Ambassador of Peru

  • Arturo Olivieri, Ambassador of Italy

  • Moshe Srmoneta , Ambassador of Israel

  • Giovanni Castillo Polanco Ambassador of Guatemala

  • Gloria Maria Jovel de Castro, Ambassador of El Salvador

  • Carlos Lopez Damm , Ambassador of Ecuador

  • Jose Rafael Tores Castro, Ambassador of Costa Rica

  • Maria Fernandez Cotez, Ambassador of Colombia

During its working visit, the Group of Ambassadors met with President of the Republic, Michel Martelly, the President of the Senate and National Assembly, Simon Dieuseul Desrasthe Prime Minister, Gary Conille and the Secretary State for Foreign Affairs Pierre Richard Casimir. The diplomats also met with the Executive Director of the Presidential Advisory Council on the Development and Investment, the Haitian private sector, and representatives in Haiti of the World Bank and of the Interamerican Development Bank, the Union European, and the diplomatic corps residing in Haiti.

The Foreign Minister, Laurent Lamothe had several meetings in the past with representatives of these various countries and estimates that the meeting conducted by President Martelly has once again helped to promote the philosophy of the Business diplomacy. The Secretary of State reiterated the urgency to closer ties with these countries through their representatives non-residents but active in investment programs of humanitarian nature, productive or other.

The President Michel Martelly reiterated the commitment of the Republic of Haiti to work to the strengthening of bilateral relations and the determination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to continue a close acting relationship with all the countries of Europe and America.
