FAd’H: 17,722 Candidates in 11 Days During the national recruitment campaign, the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd’H), from June 8 to 19, 2026, received 17,722 applications from candidates aged 18 to 25, 25% of whom were women. The FAd’H announced the upcoming launch of a second recruitment phase targeting professionals aged 22 to 35, particularly in the fields of law, engineering, and medicine. These two recruitment phases aim to gradually integrate a total of 1,800 new recruits over the next six months. Gas Station Attacked : 2 Dead, 1 Wounded On Sunday, June 28, 2026, armed individuals attacked a gas station located on National Route 6 in Quartier Morin, in the North Department. This attack tragically claimed the lives of gas station attendant Emilus Anglide (38) and Jude Dorisma. Charles Bensly (24), another security guard, was injured and taken to the hospital. The robbers made off with a quantity of cash, several weapons, and several cell phones. TPS : Governor Mike DeWine (R) criticizes Trump's decision Republican Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, a guest on CNN's "State of the Union" on June 28, 2026, reiterated to host Jake Tapper that deporting Haitian immigrants was "simply not in our best interest." Ohio relies on Haitians to fill critical jobs in manufacturing, food processing, and healthcare, DeWine said. "It’s often Haitians who take care of your mother or father with Alzheimer’s, or family members who live in nursing homes," DeWine said. "To say we’re going to deprive all of them of that workforce is simply not in our best interest. [...] I hope, once again, that the Trump administration will reconsider its position," DeWine said. "This administration is focused on creating jobs. These jobs are filled by Haitians, jobs that would otherwise remain unfilled." When asked about his intention to challenge the Supreme Court’s decision to revoke TPS status, DeWine said he accepted the ruling, but that it was important to separate the legal decision from the public policy issue. The CFLI Supports Fishers on Gonâve Island The Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) supported the project "Improving the Socio-Economic Status of Women in Coastal Communities on Gonâve Island" by the Gonâve Federation of Fishers and Artisanal Fishermen (FEGOPAP). Forty fish and seafood vendors and/or members of local fishing organizations (29 women and 11 men) benefited from several theoretical and practical training sessions on the principles and governance of cooperatives. A facility is being renovated and will be equipped with solar panels as well as equipment for preserving and distributing fish and seafood. This project will increase women’s access to fish and seafood processing infrastructure, thereby encouraging a greater supply of products and increased sales income. Venezuela : Words of Sympathy Foreign Minister Raina Forbin spoke with her Venezuelan counterpart, Iván Gil, in the immediate aftermath of the powerful double earthquake that struck Venezuela on the night of June 24-25, 2026, plunging many families into mourning, grief, and uncertainty. During this exchange, marked by solidarity and fraternity, the Foreign Minister expressed the compassion of the Haitian people, their support for the Venezuelan authorities, and their deepest sympathy to all the bereaved families and those affected. The Haitian government expresses its willingness to join regional solidarity efforts, particularly by participating, alongside CARICOM member states, in humanitarian initiatives aimed at assisting the brotherly people of Venezuela. Latest provisional figures (29/06/2026) : more than 1,450 dead, 3,200 injured and 50,000 missing. Messages to all dads Prime Minister : "On this Father's Day (June 28, 2029), Fils-Aimé respectfully and gratefully acknowledged all Haitian fathers who, despite the difficulties our country is facing, continue to demonstrate courage, dignity, and a profound sense of responsibility. These men, often working behind the scenes, lovingly bear the weight of their responsibilities and contribute, through their daily commitment, to preserving the values of solidarity, hard work, and hope that underpin our nation. The Government pays tribute to all these fathers who, by their example, inspire younger generations and participate in building a stronger and more united Haiti. On this day dedicated to them, the Prime Minister extends his sincerest wishes to all Haitian fathers. May their courage continue to light the way for their families and nurture our collective confidence in a better future. Happy Father's Day to all the fathers of Haiti. Together, with faith, unity, and perseverance, we will continue to build the country of peace, justice, and prosperity to which our people aspire." Ministry for the Status of Women : "On the occasion of Father's Day, the Ministry for the Status of Women organized a ceremony on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the Montana Hotel in Pétion-Ville, in honor of the fathers and fathers-to-be of the institution. Through this initiative, the Ministry wished to highlight the essential role of fathers in the family and society. Minister Pedrica Saint Jean paid a heartfelt tribute to the fathers of the Ministry, emphasizing that fatherhood is not limited to a biological bond, but that it represents above all a daily commitment based on presence, support, and responsibility. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to promoting responsible parenting and harmonious relationships between women and men, for the benefit of Haitian families." Cap-Haitien : "On this day dedicated to celebrating fathers, the Cap-Haitien Municipal Commission extends its sincerest wishes to all fathers in the city, in Haiti, and in the diaspora. On this occasion, the Municipal Commission pays special tribute to all fathers who, despite the difficulties, continue to fulfill their responsibilities with dignity, as well as to those who are no longer with us but whose legacy lives on in the hearts of their loved ones. To all fathers, we wish a wonderful Father's Day, surrounded by the love of their families and loved ones. Happy Father's Day !" HL/ HaitiLibre
