Haiti - Politic : The President Martelly met Stephen Harper in Davos 27/01/2012 08:21:11
The Haitian President Michel Martelly, met Thursday with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper during his visit to Davos, Switzerland, where he must participate in the World Economic Forum. During this meeting, the two leaders discussed bilateral cooperation and assistance of Canada in Haiti. Recently, Ms. Beverly J. Oda, the Canadian Minister of International Cooperation, had announced together with the President Martelly, a program of $20 million for the relocation of the 5,000 Haitian families living in the area of the Champ de Mars. The President Martelly also addressed, with the Prime Minister Harper, the way whose funds are disbursed in Haiti and has discussed of the possibility, that the disbursement of funds is done directly through Canadian firms able to submit proposals to the Canadian government, to simplify the bureaucratic process. The Prime Minister Harper expressed his desire to return to Haiti in 2012 and invited the President Martelly, to visit officially the Canada to a date still to be determined.
