Haiti - Economy : The Minustah provides work to our artisans cabinetmakers Haitians

This Friday, January 27, officials of Lycée de Bois Griffin will receive of Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Nigel Fisher, in the presence of Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Mr. Reginald Paul, a lot of 110 benches, 10 tables, 10 desks and chairs, either the contents of 8 trucks.

This distribution is part of a Quick Impact Project of a value total of 4,007,549 Gourdes (± USD 100.000), of the Civil Affairs Section of the Minustah, aims to provide in furniture, some public schools of country, that operate in difficult conditions, while providing employment for local artisans.

Thus, 12 community schools of the metropolitan area each receive a lot of benches, tables, desks and chairs ordered and purchased by the Minustah to craftsmen cabinetmakers of the capital. 4.000 students will benefit directly from these donations. The institutions concerned are located in poor neighborhoods of Port-au-Prince, Petionville, Cité Soleil, Carrefour, Cornillon and Thomazeau.

The distribution of school supplies began on January 13 at the Institut Mixte de Dieu Renforcé of Institut Mixte de Dieu Renforcé of Thomazeau, on 23 the community schools of Slovenia, Louverture and Mixte Louverture to Carrefour have received their lot of material and on January 25 the community school Elie to Cornillon (commune of Grand-Bois).

Distributions are carried out by the military contingents of the Minustah of Guatemala, Paraguay and Bolivia, and by the Italian AVSI Foundation.
