Arrival in Haiti of the OAS Secretary General at the head of a high-level delegation

On Sunday, August 16, 2026, Raina Forbin, Minister of Foreign Affairs, accompanied by Mario Andrésol, Minister of Defense, and Jacques Desrosiers, President of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), welcomed the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Albert R. Ramdin, and the Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Carla Barnett, upon their arrival at Cap-Haitien International Airport. This visit was part of an official mission by a high-level delegation from August 16 to 19, 2026.

This important delegation includes representatives from several of Haiti's partner institutions, notably the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), CARICOM, as well as representatives from United Nations agencies.

This mission is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen coordination between Haiti and its partners around national priorities, including the restoration of security, democratic governance, preparation for the electoral process, and the socio-economic stabilization of the country.

During his stay in Haiti, Ramdin and his delegation will meet with Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, as well as with various institutional stakeholders. These consultations will provide an opportunity to assess the situation in the country and examine the modalities for more coherent and results-oriented international support.

This mission will also constitute an important step in the implementation of the OAS Roadmap for Stability and Peace in Haiti. It should contribute to translating partners' commitments into concrete and coordinated actions, based on the priorities defined by the Haitian authorities.
