Saturday August 22, 2026, as part of their joint tour in Gonaïves, the delegation bringing together the Ministry of Public Works (MTPTC) and the Ministry of the Environment (MDE) continued its mission in the field.

As part of the third day of their tour, Joseph Almathe Pierre-Louis, Minister of Public Works and Valéry Fils-Aimé Minister of the Environment were received in audience by Mgr. Yves-Marie Péan, Bishop of the diocese of Gonaïves.

During this audience, the two ministers presented the priority areas of the Government led by Prime Minister Fils-Aimé. This exchange also made it possible to solicit the leadership of the Church to disseminate, through homilies, messages of peace, citizenship and social cohesion. The discussions also focused on raising awareness among the faithful about protecting the environment and preventing uncontrolled construction.

Faced with the environmental emergencies of the region, the ministers and Mgr. Yves-Marie Péan focused on sustainable waste management, the fight against unregulated urban development and the freeing of areas around water evacuation canals in order to significantly reduce the risk of flooding.

Should be noted that in order to anchor these eco-responsible reflexes from an early age, the Ministry of the Environment is currently carrying out a project to create ecological school clubs within congregational establishments, aimed at raising awareness among Haitian youth about the protection of nature.

Still as part of its interventions in the City of Independence, the delegation carried out an evaluation visit to the 23 kilometer section linking Gonaïves to Newfoundland and interacting with local authorities as well as residents.

This joint MTPTC-MDE mission reflects the Government's desire to combine infrastructure development, environmental protection and community engagement for a lasting impact on the national territory.
