Closing of the National Forum "What Army for Haiti ?" On Sunday, August 23, 2026, Mario Andrésol, Minister of Defense, closed the 3-day National Forum “What Army for Haiti?”. The discussions stemming from the forum outline the contours of a professional, republican, and modern army called upon to defend the territory and national sovereignty; respect and contribute to the consolidation of the rule of law and democratic institutions; remain exclusively at the service of the Haitian nation, free from any partisan or private interest; and make the population's trust a strategic priority. Preparing for new technological challenges, particularly those related to artificial intelligence, and strengthening its capacity to respond to natural disasters and national emergencies. On this occasion, several prominent figures responded to the invitation of this institution, which preserves the country's historical documents and civil records. Among those present were Emmanuel Ménard, Minister of Culture, his Chief of Staff, Wilson Paulémon, and the former Mayor of Port-au-Prince, Jean Yves Jason. Testimonials, awards, and cultural and musical performances punctuated the celebration. Names of the DNL Competition Winners The National Book Directorate (DNL) announced the winners of the "What if we said Depestre?" and "Francophonie Spelling Bee" competitions. Victoria L. Diam Charles, from the Jacques Stephen Alexis Media Library, won First Prize in the Francophonie Spelling Bee. Second Prize: Emmanuella Garlie Louis, from the Chantal Cultural Center for Reading and Activities (CLAC), and Third Prize: Merryjie Similien, from the Cabaret CLAC. Following deliberations by the jury of the "What if we said Depestre ?" competition, the First Prize was awarded to Jean Rood Jude, the Second Prize to Marc Dalensky Sinfestin, and the Third Prize to Christopher Vercine. New Departmental Delegate for the Northwest Arnel Auguste, Attorney at Law, Port-de-Paix Bar, former executive with the Red Cross movement and several local and international organizations, has been appointed Departmental Delegate for the Northwest. He becomes the first representative of the Central Executive Branch, Head of Civil Protection, and Coordinator for the Northwest Department. Creation of a Credit Committee at ONA The National Old-Age Insurance Office (ONA) announces the creation of a Credit Committee tasked with reviewing and evaluating loan applications submitted to the institution and making decisions on all pending loan requests. This Committee is composed of Josué Beaubrun from the Legal Department, Hervé Clergé from the Finance Department, Jean Marceau Barrais from Internal Audit, Michel Thébeau from Actuarial Science, and Jude Solon from the Administrative Department. The General Management requests that Committee members exercise rigor in applying credit rules and principles when processing loan applications. OMRH : Training on Material Resource Management The Office of Management and Human Resources (OMRH), with the support of the Inter-institutional Committee on the Rationalization of State Material Resources, organized a training workshop on the management of state material resources for administrative and accounting staff of the Haitian National Police. This training will enable participants to better understand the principles and procedures for managing, accounting for, and inventorying equipment, as well as the tools necessary for preparing inventory reports.
