Haiti - Health : OFATMA Hospital helps a 5-year-old child walk again
The Office of Workplace Accident, Illness, and Maternity Insurance (OFATMA) reports that a complex orthopedic surgery was successfully performed at the OFATMA Hospital in Cap-Haïtien on 5-year-old Prince Rubterson Étienne, who suffered from hip dysplasia. This condition caused the young patient significant difficulty standing and walking. The surgery performed by the medical team aimed to correct the condition and promote the recovery of his motor skills. Today, seven months later, the young patient is able to walk independently. The surgery consisted of a Smith-Petersen iliofemoral release and reduction of the femoral head, combined with a Chiari pelvic osteotomy. This success is largely attributed to Dr. Hubert Michel Pierre-Louis, with the collaboration of Drs. Erick Bruno and Canold Andrevil, as well as several other healthcare professionals at the facility. This achievement is part of the ongoing specialized interventions performed at OFATMA Hospital in Cap-Haitien. It demonstrates the expertise of the medical teams and the hospital's capacity to manage complex orthopedic cases, particularly in children. Other specialized surgical procedures are also being planned as part of OFATMA's ongoing development of healthcare services. HL/ HaitiLibre
