As part of the implementation of the Resilient Agriculture for Food Security Project (PARSA), the rehabilitation works on several sections of rural roads carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture are nearing completed in the municipalities of Beaumont and Pestel, in the Grand'Anse department.

In total, the works involved 600 linear meters (m) of concrete strip roads and 600 m of dirt roads. This infrastructure is expected to help open up agricultural production areas and facilitate farmers' access to markets. It underwent provisional acceptance on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, after verification of the conformity of the work carried out.

The acceptance was conducted by agricultural engineer Ralph Wendy Despeignes, Departmental Director of Agriculture for Grand'Anse, in conjunction with the PARSA Regional Coordination in the Grand Sud region, in the presence of local authorities and representatives of the beneficiary communities.

The works carried out in the municipalities of Beaumont and Pestel targeted rural routes that are particularly important for population mobility and the transport of agricultural products. In the municipality of Beaumont, specifically in the 2nd communal section of Chardonnette, the work involved rehabilitating 150 meters of track with concrete strips. In the locality of Dumois, another 150-meter section of concrete strips was also rehabilitated.

Regarding dirt tracks, 200 meters were rehabilitated in Chardonnette and 200 meters in Dumois. In Pestel, in the 4th communal section of Clément, on the section connecting the Desriveaux intersection to Macochon, the work included 300 meters of concrete strips and 200 meters of dirt tracks.

These interventions are part of a broader effort to open up rural areas, improve mobility, and strengthen access to essential infrastructure and services in communities with high agricultural potential.

The rehabilitation of these roads should help improve travel conditions for the beneficiary populations. In particular, it facilitates access to healthcare centers, schools, and other essential services.

For agricultural producers, the improved condition of rural roads should help reduce transportation constraints and facilitate the transport of products to major markets.

Beyond improving mobility, this work should also foster stronger trade between production areas and consumption centers. Ultimately, better accessibility to rural areas can help reduce losses and transportation costs, while offering producers better conditions for marketing and adding value to their produce.
