On Friday, September 18, 2026, James Monazard, Minister of Commerce and Industry (MCI), through the Directorate of Quality Control and Consumer Protection (DCQPC), mobilized approximately ten inspectors to conduct an inspection operation at several gas stations in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area.

This intervention is part of the Ministry's efforts to strengthen consumer rights protection and ensure better monitoring of the conformity of products available on the market, particularly following several complaints received (https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-48457-haiti-news-zapping.html).

The inspection teams' mission was to verify the conformity of the gas stations and to collect fuel samples from the pumps for laboratory analysis.

During the operation, the inspectors recorded the necessary information to ensure the traceability of the collected samples. Visual and olfactory tests were also conducted on-site before samples were collected for analysis.

These various steps should allow the Ministry to obtain reliable technical data on the quality of the inspected products and, if necessary, to take appropriate measures based on the analysis results.

Through this initiative, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry reaffirms its commitment to strengthening control mechanisms, promoting compliance with standards, and ensuring better consumer protection.

Furthermore, the Ministry has established a complaint collection system for motorists (https://mci.gouv.ht/doleances.php) who believe they have suffered damages after purchasing adulterated fuel. Consumers submitting a complaint on the MCI platform are asked to specify the service station in question, its address, the date of refueling, and the problems observed with their vehicle. Receipts or other supporting documents may also be included in the complaint.
